Scripture Reader: Julissa Montero

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Post-Grad Plans: Julissa plans to celebrate with her friends and family, and then begin studying for the NCLEX and start a new grad residency in the operating room.

Why WPU: 鈥淚 chose Warner because of its dedication to diversity. I am a first generation and first in the family to graduate from a four-year university and graduate from a nursing program. I felt seen and understood at Warner Pacific which only motivated me to do good in my studies and finish strong. My accomplishments aren鈥檛 just for me, they are for my family as well.鈥

Accomplishments: Julissa won the HRSA Nurse Corp scholarship which paid for her whole nursing school tuition plus a monthly stipend.

Favorite Faculty Member: 鈥淜yle Vanderschick and Jessica Sandstrom because they are not only great teachers but amazing mentors with great humor!鈥

Advice for Current Students: 鈥淚t will get difficult, and you will want to give up. Keep going anyway; you鈥檒l be thankful you did! Seek help when needed and ask all the questions you need. You are the leader of your own education. Go in full force and don鈥檛 let anyone tell you, you can鈥檛 do something.鈥

Traditional Student Speaker: Miguel Andalon-Ordaz

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine

Post-Grad Plans: Miguel plans on attending a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program but is deciding where to attend.

Why WPU: 鈥淚 chose Warner not only for the education but because the men鈥檚 soccer head coach, Troy Ready, believed in my ability and gave me a chance to prove myself. I also chose Warner because it is close to home. I am such a home body and love spending time with my family and being able to commute made it that much better.鈥

Internships: Miguel interned with WPU鈥檚 athletic trainer, Brandon Riedel. He also had an internship at Gresham Sports Care PT.

Favorite Faculty Member: 鈥淎my Engilis because she has been my professor for most of my classes and she always gives real feedback, not just what you want to hear but what you need to hear. She is also very experienced in the medical field and provides great advice.鈥

Advice for Current Students: 鈥淒on鈥檛 be afraid to seek help. Everyone has great advice and is always willing to support you. Don鈥檛 be afraid of change or something new, this often opens the best opportunities for you as it helps you grow and experience new things.鈥

PGS Student Speaker: Deanon (DeeDee) Bradley-Rich

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood/Elementary Education

Post-Grad Plans: DeeDee will continue working as a 5th grade teacher at David Douglas School District.

Why WPU: 鈥淢y school District partnered with Warner to have educators of color get certified. I appreciated that Warner was willing to jump in and make sure I had the chance to fulfill my dreams.鈥

Accomplishments: 鈥淢y journey has been a long time coming. I never had anyone to tell me the importance of getting an education, now that I know, I’m telling anyone I encounter. Education is the key to being successful in life.鈥

Favorite Faculty Member: 鈥淜athleen Vincent and Kevin Spooner were my favorite teachers. I could always count on them when I needed them the most. They were always available to ready to help went it counted most. Even today if I need them, they would be willing to jump in and help as needed, and I love that about them.鈥

Advice for Current Students: 鈥淢y advice to current students would be to dream big and never give up on your goals. Always give yourself the credit you deserve, and you will make but see those mistakes as learning opportunities for your future growth mindset.鈥
